Commercial Accountant / Business & Finance Professional

We are looking for an experienced, insightful and pragmatic business & finance professional to join our fast-growing, cybersecurity software business. Operating in one of the most exciting Software as a Service (SaaS) markets globally, the opportunity is significant. We are looking for a stand out personal performers who are also great team members and can help take us to the next level of growth.

The role reports to the Head of Performance & Development, who also owns finance and business operations. You’ll do the day to day financial work as part of your ‘business as usual’ activity. In addition, you’ll lead and support a range of projects and initiatives across the growing organisation, all with a view to making bigger leaps forward as we accelerate the scale-up. The pace is fast and agile, the work is varied, everything is paperless and ongoing change is absolutely certain. We aim for pragmatism over perfection, and this role is no different. It is more about the efficient creation of insight for better decision making, than analysis purely for the sake of it. So being able to balance the risk of over/under analysis and effective use of time will be essential. The work will broadly break down into two key areas:

  • Ongoing business & finance responsibilities
  • One-off projects and change-driven work

Ongoing business & finance responsibilities include:

  • Oversight and management of the outsourced bookkeeping service
  • Hands-on financial administration and controller day to day activities
  • Preparing Dept, Leadership & Board reports including sharing insights and presenting well thought through recommendations
  • Owning and evolving the financial reporting including budgets, cash, forecasting, especially around SaaS metrics and performance
  • Acting as the conscience of the business, helping department heads assess and then continually improve practices in each of the key delivery areas: marketing, sales, success management, services delivery, product development and operations

One-off exercises and change-driven work:

  • Business case & research support on new products, markets and propositions development
  • Helping develop user-friendly tools that aid marketing demand creation and assist direct & partner sales e.g. pricing tools, business case calculators, RoI analysis tools i.e. business enabling
  • Improving and when required, migrating the business, finance and HR systems as the organisation continues to grow
  • Assisting the Executive Leadership Team and Board on other strategic initiatives
  • Getting involved in the practical delivery of work when required to understand, test and explore opportunities for change

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified accountant with demonstrable, relevant post qualified experience
  • Technology sector experience, preferably within a SaaS environment
  • Strong systems use and analytical skills with advanced Excel modelling
  • Superb information presentation skills including use of Powerpoint alongside other tools to bring alive insights and recommendations
  • A forward-thinking, commercial mind, capable of advising and influencing key stakeholders
  • Very good attention to detail, able to craft and communicate complex information well in writing and verbally
  • Experience of working in small growing organisations as well as a larger corporate office
